Viburnum tinus L.

 

Il viburno è un genere di arbusto sempreverde, con foglie picciolate, intere o lobate, infiorescenze composte, frutto drupaceo, monospermo. Il fogliame è ovale o lanceolato, in genere coriaceo, liscio o rugoso di colore verde scuro. I fusti sono molto ramificati, e sopportano potature anche drastiche, a volte necessarie per mantenere l’arbusto più compatto. Il viburno ha forma arrotondata, o eretta, e può raggiungere i 3-4 metri di altezza nell’arco di alcuni anni. Il genere Viburnum comprende circa duecento specie di arbusti di dimensioni varie; esistono più 100 specie distribuite nelle regioni subtropicali e temperate dell’Estremo Oriente e dell’America, pochissime in Europa e nell’Africa settentrionale. Fiori e corteccia hanno largo impiego anche in ambito medicinale.

 

Viburnum

Viburnum is a plants of the Caprifoliaeae family, to which shrubs and deciduous trees belong. Its petiolate leaves are whole or lobed, inflorescences are composed, fruits are drupaceous and monospermus. The foliage is oval or lanceolate, usually coriaceous, smooth or wrinkled, depending on the species, dark green in colour. The stems are very ramified, and can even be pruned drastically, in order to keep the shrub more compact. It has usually rounded or erect shape, and reaches 3-4 metres of height over a few years.Very popular in gardens for easy cultivation, it includes about 200 species of different size shrubs; there are more than 100 species spread in subtropical and mild regions in the Far East and America, very few in Europe and Northern Africa. Flowers and bark are largely employed for medical purpose.
